The day started with Bradley gasping for air, it was probably just another bad dream. He climbed out of bed, checked his clock, 10:45 am. He had 20 minutes to make it across The Maitland on his bike to the park near Magnolia St, for his job interview. This is what he came here for after all, it’s why he left his farmland out west. He was perturbed with himself for waking up so late. After he had slipped on his every day black slacks with his baby blue button up, he stared at the pantry, face bland, “not today” he muttered to myself. This time, maybe it really was the quenching feeling his stomach that had intensified for the interview, that made him lose all appetite. Maybe this time it was not his Leukemia.
He grabbed his bike and walked it down the West Maitland hall all the way to the stairs because the elevator is never guaranteed. It sometimes addled his brain, knowing that this is what he worked so diligently for. Growing up, he raised financial support from his previous neighbors in return for farm labor in order to attend Salish Kootenai College. It was only a few minutes down the road from where he lived in SunRiver, Montana. He participated in a four year apprenticeship program to prepare himself to become an Electrician, which is what he has set out to be interviewed for in The Maitland. Once he reached the bottom of the stairs, he hopped on his bike and began down Keller Blvd, despite the rain.
He despises the rain, his father died only four years ago, on a rainy day. From Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, only at age 68. Bradley had lost his best friend. He never knew his mother, who passed during his birth, 28 years ago. Through the heartbreak in his life, he remained content. Bradley’s the type that keeps to himself, however found his passion through his hands on work. Luckily, he is in his earlier stages of Leukemia so he is keen to working for at least the five years the doctors’ assured he’s got.
He arrived at the park, short of breath, but on time. He ended up getting the Electrician job that he had desired and was told to begin on the following Monday with some basic training at the Factory. Exhausted with his day already, Bradley biked back to his one room apartment, that didn’t feel like home and fell fast asleep.
